just a few doors down from mine
and i couldn’t believe i had to live with it,
walking by everyday and knowing
i could and couldn’t just knock

so really, it’s a privilege to be
here, trying to un-remember
a phone number and feigning
relief, like i wouldn’t uproot myself
for even incidental closeness
